Refurbishment of former flood damaged school to new offices, Carlisle

The project involved the refurbishment and adaptive reuse of a two-storey, flood-damaged former school building, transforming it into a functional space comprising offices, classrooms, and specialist facilities. The scope included structural remediation, selective demolition of redundant areas, and a full internal fit-out to accommodate modern working and learning environments. The scheme also incorporated the creation of a temporary gym and physiotherapy unit to support community health initiatives.

Our role was to act as Lead Chartered Surveyor, overseeing all aspects of project delivery from initial assessment through to completion. This included managing the design and construction teams, coordinating stakeholder engagement with future occupants and local authorities, and ensuring the works met operational requirements and expectations. We led the procurement process, monitored progress against programme, and ensured full compliance with UK Building Regulations and health and safety standards. The project contributed to the wider regeneration of the site and its long-term viability.
