Historic church conservation, Warwick Bridge
£500,000
12+ months
The project involved the conservation and restoration of a Grade II listed church originally designed in the distinctive Gothic Revival style of Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, a leading figure in 19th-century ecclesiastical architecture. The church’s interior featured original Pugin decoration, deeply rooted in medieval Gothic principles, including polychromatic stencilling, carved stonework, and liturgically significant ornamentation. The restoration aimed to preserve and reinstate these historic design elements in accordance with heritage and liturgical standards.
Our role was to act as Parish Advisor, coordinating between the appointed Parish Architect, the Diocese, and heritage authorities to facilitate the faculty application process. This included guiding the project through ecclesiastical permissions, ensuring alignment with conservation best practices, and managing stakeholder expectations. We supported the development of a restoration strategy that respected the integrity of Pugin’s original design while meeting contemporary requirements for worship and community use.
